Additional Information Auchentoshan Three Wood

Distiller: Auchentoshan Distillery, Clydebank, Scotland Auchentoshan (pronounced “och’n’tosh’n”) is one of only six Lowland distilleries. Founded in the early 1800s (sources differ on the exact year, but the Auchentoshan website states 1823), this distillery lies at the foot of the Kilpatrick Hills just outside Glasgow. Its name roughly translates to “the field of the corner.” What sets Auchentoshan apart is its unique triple distillation process, resulting in a cleaner spirit with fewer impurities and a higher alcohol content (81% ABV compared to the usual 70%).

Age: NAS (but 12+) The Auchentoshan Three Wood begins its journey in American Bourbon barrels, where it matures for 12 years. It then embarks on a delightful flavor adventure by being transferred to Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks for an additional year. But wait, there’s more! After the Oloroso phase, it spends another year in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks. Three distillations. Three casks. One sublime Scotch.

Strength: 86 Proof (43% ABV) The Auchentoshan Three Wood strikes a harmonious balance between its robust flavors and approachable strength. At 86 proof, it delivers a satisfying experience without overwhelming the palate.

Reviews Of Auchentoshan Three Wood

The Auchentoshan Three Wood is an under-the-radar gem. While the distillery itself may not win any scenic beauty awards (it’s across from the Clydebank Crematorium), the whisky it produces is a hidden treasure. Triple-distilled, it marries honey, vanilla, orange zest, and sherry fruit into a harmonious symphony. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or a curious newcomer, this Lowlands legend won’t disappoint.
